2015 ACCELERATE WORKSHOPS

2015 ACCELERATE LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS

Five outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts professionals have been announced as the 2015 participants of British Council’s annual leadership skills development programme, ACCELERATE. The participants will undergo tailored leadership programs in Wiseman Ferry NSW, 1 hour from Sydney, Australia. Plus each will travel to the United Kingdom for professional placements and mentoring designed to develop their chosen creative vocation. 

We all arrive/load onto the bus for 8:45am road trip to Eco Retreat in Wiseman Ferry NSW!

We arrived to have a lovely Welcome to Country by Uncle Allen Madden.























The 2015 ACCELERATE participants progressed to the first stage of the 2015 programme, where we all took part in three days of facilitated workshops to explore our own understanding of what leadership means to us and how to further develop your own ideas to create a unique, bespoke UK professional placements at the end of the year.

DAY 1 + 2 - Delivered by visiting UK expert Mark Wright of People Create, the leadership intensive aims to enhance the participants’ understanding of their own leadership styles as well as providing them with the practical skills necessary to develop their career pathways. 

Thank you Mark for creating such a trusting environment and giving us the tools to become better leaders!

























DAY 3 - Nicola Turner from NT Creative Arts during one days of facilitated workshops to explore their understanding of UK and further develop ideas for their bespoke UK professional placements.






















DAY 3 - INDIGENOUS COMPONENT

VERY much needed! Giving perspective from black fella side and putting back on you, your responsible for yourself and taking care of yourself. Learning to have life + work + community balance. Not taking on blame or shame. Understanding yourself + your place with your family, community and culture. Too deadly uncle Ron!



















The group as the next couple of months to work with Nicola + British Council to create their bespoke UK package including interests, coaching, mentors and business values. At the end of the year , they will then travel to the UK for three weeks in November 2015 where they will develop their skills in consultation with high-profile individuals and organisations in
their artistic fields.

2015 ACCELERATE - LAUNCH EVENT


2015 ACCELERATE - LAUNCH EVENT




The five participants were asked to arrive at 4:30pm for pre- event set up and media interviews. Invited guests to arrive at 6- 6:30pm for pre event entertainment with music performance by Accelerate participant Marcus Corowa during pre drinks + canapes. Host for the event is Natalie Ahmat from NITV.
























Then at 6:30pm event to commence with Welcome to Country by Elder Helen O'Neil. Introduction from Peter White (Accelerate Alumni & Australian Council Peer) and Key Note speaker Luke Pearson. 


I am waiting nervously to the side of the room waiting for the announcement. I hate being in the spot light, I like being behind the scenes not on stage.

Around 7pm, British Council's Country Director - Helen O'Neil + Peter White come to the stage to announce 2015 participants. The five participants selected from nation-wide call for applications and were announced as part of a special celebration held at Carriageworks on Tuesday, 1 September 2015. 































Every participant received a gift pack including a Moleskin note book and body care products by Aesop. After event drinks + canapes continued until 9pm.

Special mention to my amazing Sydney family - I really appreciate every thing you do for me! BIGGEST thank you to my deadly sista - Josie Styles for coming down  + supporting me and being my PR manager by taking behind the scenes shots! I love you! To my unc nugget for being there and sissy Miranda Tapsell to coming down for support!

2015 ACCELERATE - MEDIA

2015 ACCELERATE - SYDNEY, NSW

I arrived in Sydney on Monday, 31 August to Adina Apartments in Darlington NSW. British Council wanted everyone to arrive a day prior to media interviews and launch event.

The next morning, we were advised to arrive at Carriageworks at 8:30am.

British Councils said to prepare for media interviews with SBS Radio, Arts Hub, NITV News and The Australian.
